When the weather starts getting colder, it becomes a little harder to convince yourself to suit up and stake a step outside in the brisk chill. However, there are a few things you can do to still stay active, even in winter.

1. If you still want to tak a brisk jog or walk, dress warm

The cold can take a toll on you, no matter how great you are during your usual jog. Make sure to wear appropriate clothing for your outdoor adventures. Wear a hat to keep heat from escaping from your head. To avoid getting a sore throat, wear a scarf and protect it from the chill. If it is very cold, gloves are a must. Also, when it comes to footwear, check the weather. You should probably avoid jogging in ice and snow, but if that’s not possible, make sure to put on proper footwear to prevent you from slipping (and warm socks to keep your toes cozy!).

2. Try some new winter activites

Maybe jogging or walking in the snow and cold doesn’t sound like your idea of fun. You can try things such as ice skating to stay in shape. Whether there is an outdoor area to do it, you can also find plenty of ice skating rinks at local event areas or even malls. Skiing is also another great alternative if you’d like to try hitting the slopes.

3. Exercise indoors

There is nothing wrong with busting out a Yoga mat to get in some stretches. There are plenty of Youtube videos online that have inside workout tutorials, especially every since the COVID-19 pandemic hit and everyone was forced to stay indoors. Stretching is another great way to stay in shape.

4. Try… video games!

Seems counter-intuitive, but there are plenty of games that can help keep you in shape! You might remember back in the early 2000s when the Nintendo Wii came out… and now, there are plenty of others to try. Nintendo as the Ring Fit Adventure game on the Switch, as well as plenty of games such as Just Dance to help get you moving. While the Switch might cost a pretty penny, it could help keep you healthy and entertained in the long term. Plus, if you have kids or grandkids, they’ll love you for it.
